Translink has officially approved a fare increase that will come into effect on July 1st of this year, which is one month from the date of this post. The expected 2.3% increase is lower than what is originally planned (4.1%). Translink already cancelled fair increase in 2020 due to covid and reduce this year’s increase by 1.8%.
However, we do expect transit fair to continue to increase on a yearly basis given that the minimum wage increases and rapid expansion of the Transit system up to year 2050. Metro Vancouver is pushing for a more environmentally friendly city and encourage people cycling and taking transit to work. If fairs continue to increase, driving might become a better option.
