Whistler Blackcomb’s Creekside zone will get major lift upgrade, a $325 million capital investment announced by Vail Resort. It will be Vail’s largest single-year investment into the guest experience.

The existing six-seater Creekside Gondola will be replaced with a new high-speed, eight-person gondola. The Big Red Express will also be replaced with a new high-speed, six-person chair. The replacement will significantly decrease wait time massively improving user experiences as the existing gondola are constantly full of skier.

According to Vail:

  • Creekside Gondola Upgrade will improve uphill capacity by nearly 35%
  • Big Red Express Upgrade will improve uphill capacity by nearly 30%

Expected completion date is 2022-2023 Winter Season. The project still needs to be approved by the government.

"Our mission at Vail Resorts is to provide an Experience of a Lifetime to anyone who visits our resorts—and delivering on that mission requires constant re-imagination and investment into the guest experience," said Rob Katz, Vail Resorts chairman and chief executive officer, in a release. "Our teams have been hard at work identifying significant opportunities to improve the guest experience and have produced an initial list of exciting lift upgrades, a restaurant expansion and projects that expand access to incredible terrain for next season, with more to be announced.
